
THE PALIO REMIERO: A CENTURIES-OLD HISTORY
A month full of initiatives and festivals all along the coastline culminates in the eagerly awaited rowing contest between the 12 contrade (local districts). From late May to late June, Cavallino-Treporti is filled with the colours of the Palio Remiero, an event that combines a love of sport and the open air with the tradition of Venetian rowing, the unique rowing style that developed on the Venice Lagoon.

The event commemorates the thousand-year-old link between this area and the water and recalls the tireless work of farmers on the coastline who, over half a century ago, crossed the lagoon on board their vessels to reach the vegetable market in the Venice Rialto.
